Keep Your Dog From Jumping The Fence

Is your dog a fence jumper? If so that can be very dangerous for your dog because it could get lost or run over by a car. Let's talk about some things you can do to help solve that problem.

Of course the most logical and at the same time the most expensive way to control the jumping is to build a taller fence. If you currently have a 4 foot fence then installing a 6 foot fence would probably solve the problem. Of course that would be expensive.

What if you already have a 6 foot fence and your dog still can make it over the top? Going to an 8 foot fence probably won't solve the problem if he is climbing up the fence rather than jumping.

OK here is the answer for fences of all heights and built from any type of material. Simply add an underground fence system inside the current fence. Underground fence systems can be expensive to install so I have an even better more cost effective way to do it.

Do the install yourself and don't bury the wire. Burying the wire is the expensive as well as the back breaking part of an install. You can do it without that high cost and without the hard work.

SportDOG Brand In-Ground Fence System

Go to any of the big box pet stores, building material stores or even online and find an underground fence system. You will probably spend $175 - $300+ for a kit that comes complete with wire.

Now simply install the wire on your existing fence. If you have a wood fence you can staple the wire to the fence. On the other hand if you have a chain link or other metal type fence you can simply weave the wire through the fence. See it's easy because you do not have to bury the wire.

Find a place to mount the control box as per the instructions that come with the system and you are in business. The best part about this type of installation is that it is easy to repair any type of wire break you may have because it is all visible instead of being underground.

Taking the time to install this type of system can actually save your dogs life and make you happier as well since you will not be having to worry about an escaping dog or spending hours trying to find it after it escapes.
