If you are unable to use it in the correct manner, a dog can end up feeling frustrated or even trapped. The crate should never be used as a form of punishment as the dog can end up fearing it or even refuse to go inside.

Crates come in a number of different sizes and they can be found at many different types of pet stores that offer supplies as well as online retailers. You need to have a crate for your dog that is just big enough for him or her to stand up in and be able to turn around. If you are getting a crate for a puppy, you can choose a crate that will accommodate the adult size that he or she will be.

Training for the crate should also be done in small steps and never rushed or pushed. Also, adding in a pad for sleeping on or a blanket and a toy will make the crate even more appealing for any of the uses that you need it for with your dog. However, reserve the bedding for a dog that is well past the chewing stage. It is cheaper that way!
