Dog-Friendly Halloween Events 2017

Halloween 2017 is just around the corner, and to celebrate we’ve fetched news of a few of the most frightfully fun Fido-centric festivities taking place across the country that you and your dog can enjoy together! Do you know of a Halloween event for real party animals that’s not on the list? Let us know in the comments below!
California

Haute Dog Howl’oween Parade
When: October 29th at 2:30 p.m.
Where: Marina Vista Park at 5355 E. Eliot Street in Long Beach

Known as the world’s largest Halloween event for our four-legged friends, more than 400 Fidos dressed in spook-tacular style will promenade along the parade route, with the day’s ‘top dogs’ winning prizes for their apparel. Pet parents who step out with Spot in Halloween attire can also aspire to win a prize. The event’s real winners, however, will be the adorable adoptables at the pet adoption fair!

Florida

When: October 28 from 9 a.m. – noon
Where: Secret Lake Park in Casselberry

Enjoy a constitutional with your costume-clad canine companion and help a paws cause in the process, with all of the proceeds from the promenade in the park and a parade of Halloween puppy apparel benefitting Franklin’s Friends, and all volunteer non-profit which offers aid to local nonprofits and government agencies which work in areas of shelter/rescue, spay/neuter or educating the public on animal issues. This year participants are striving to raise $55,000!

Georgia

Spooky Walk-N-Wag Dog Walk and Costume Parade
When: October 14 at 11:15 a.m.
Where: Six Flags over Georgia

The popular amusement park has resurrected its annual Fright Fest’s Fido-centric Halloween fete for 2017! Costume-clad canines (and our barking buddies who just want to wear their birthday suit) can promenade along a one-mile course in the park, with stops to take sips of water if necessary from water bowls set up at stations and to pose for photos with their families. Next, dogs in disguises can try to win prizes when they gather on one of the back roads behind the park for the Dog Halloween Costume Parade. A paw-ty with a higher purpose, to take part pet parents should donate a five pound bag of dog or cat food, which will be presented to an animal rescue.

Illinois

Chicago Botanical Garden
When: October 21 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Where: 1000 Lake Cook Road in Glencoe

Pups in cute costumes will look pretty as a petal as they promenade past the floral finery at the Chicago Botanical Garden (or should that be the Chicago BOOtanical Garden?) during the Spooky Pooch Parade! The annual treat for our tail-wagging chums also includes costume contests with categories such as Best Horticultural Interpretation, Best Puppy in Costume and Best Senior in Costume, and vendor booths brimming with pet-related products.

Massachusetts

Canine Promenade
When: October 22 from noon – 2 p.m.
Where: Charles River Esplanade on Fielder Field in Boston

Raising awareness of park improvements while raising people’s spirits, our barking buddies from the Boston area will stroll a 1/2 mile in spooky style with their Daddy (or Mummy!) by their side…and dogs who don a disguise could win a prize, with awards handed out for Best Costume and Best Duet (person and pet). The afternoon will also include demonstrations, activities, giveaways and gift bags and treats presented to all the participating pups.

New York

Howl-O-Ween Bark Block Party
When: October 22
Where: 153 East 3rd in New York City

Celebrating a decade of dogged devotion to a frightfully fun time for Fidos, this boo bash will feature dogs in disguises trying to win prizes and adorable adoptables hoping to win the heart of a forever pet parent! The event will benefit the companion animals in the care of Sean Casey Animal Rescue. (NOTE; Raffle tickets for the party are currently available. The wine will have a choice of one of four grand prizes: a Series 3 Apple Watch, four Disney Park passes, a premium car for kids or a Go Pro Hero. All of the proceeds from the raffle will go to the Sean Casey Animal Rescue’s Critical Care Program.)

Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade
When: October 21st from noon – 3 p.m.

Perhaps the globe’s largest gathering of gussied up pups, “little pumpkins” with paws in The Big Apple can let their inner pirate or princess out to play as they promenade in the 27th annual Tompkins Square Halloween Parade. The holiday happening is also a chance for adorable adoptables from an array of area animal rescues.

Texas

Dogtoberfest
When: October 21 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Where: The Domain in Austin

Pet parents in The Live Music Capital of the World sing the praises of Dogtoberfest Austin! Deemed the “Most Awesome-ist Pet Related Event” in the city for seven years in a row, dogs can show off their Halloween duds in the canine costume contest, with pups winning prizes for best sports star, best fantasy and superhero, best duo (person and pet), best ensemble and best in show! The day of play also includes wiener dog races, pet portraits, the DogTOBER Trot, a silent auction, raffle drawings, pet adoptions and more. This year’s bash for our buddies who bark will benefit Austin Boxer Rescue, Austin Dog Rescue, Austin German Shepherd Rescue, Austin Sheltie Rescue, Hound Rescue, Texas Husky Rescue, Texas Sweeties Dog Rescue and Wee Rescue.

Howl-o-Ween Fest

A real treat for our tail-wagging chums, pets and their parents can applaud the abilities of The Super Collies, who have shown off their special skills on America’s Got Talent! Clothes conscious canines can step into the spotlight in their Halloween-themed attire during the pooch fashion show and costume contest, and Dad and Mom can mull over merchandise at vendor stalls brimming with pet-related products. Those looking to add a new member to their fur family can meet adorable adoptables from area rescue groups, which will receive all of the proceeds raised from Howl-o-Ween Fest.
