Springer Spaniels are great dogs for pets as their high intelligence and great attitude makes them a joy to be around. The breed was originally developed to be a gun dog and to be a quick retriever in the field.

They are a very athletic dog and they enjoy all of the action that occurs on the hunt, such as tracking, flushing the game, and just being a part of the companionship that exists between the dog and the hunter.


But Springer Spaniels make great pets for the same reasons. The high intelligence of the dog makes it ideal for relationship building, obedience and just the general friendliness that the dog possesses makes the breed an excellent pet.

Springer's bond very easily with their family, and look upon their duty to protect and become a family member as serious business. They are very loyal to the people around them, with whom they become very close to. Since the Springer Spaniel is very easy to train, they learn quickly and know their place in the hierarchy of things.

The Springer Spaniel is a compact, medium sized dog which has dark brown markings with white on the chest and nose areas. They are handsome dogs and are similar to the smaller Cocker Spaniel, and differ in size by a third.

The Springer Spaniel is a very friendly dog and is very eager to please its people, and thus they make very good pets and family dogs. They are very affectionate and they have a pleasing personality and are easy going. They are extremely alert and will form relationships very quickly with each member of a family.


They are a very sociable dog and they really like the company of children along with other pets. They are very intelligent and if they are left alone for a long time, they tend to get bored, which can lead to unintentional and mischievous destructive behavior.

This breed of dog has stamina and energy that is remarkable, which makes them ideal for hunting, but their ability to be the spark of fun and play also enters into an ideal family dog. These dogs also love the water, and whenever they get the opportunity, they love to get wet.

The average lifespan of a Springer Spaniel is 10 to 15 years. There are some inbred health issues that can come into play such as hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, and retinal dysplasia, which will cause the need for veterinarian monitoring of this breed as they get older
