Make Your Yard Poison Free

Your yard is usually your dog's play area, the place where he goes to run and play and have a good time. But it can also be a place of danger for him. There can be poisonous substances in your yard that threaten your dog.

If you enjoy a green lawn you may use chemical fertilizers on your grass. But these fertilizers can harm your dog. If you employ a lawn service you should discuss with them the chemicals they are using and talk to them about your dog and his safety. You may need to discontinue use of the fertilizer. At the very least, you will need to keep your dog off the grass for some time after the fertilizer has been applied.

Lawn care often demands herbicides, too, for those pesky weeds. Unfortunately, many herbicides have been linked to cancers in dogs. Some plants in your yard may be poisonous to your dog. Lilies, azaleas, rhododendrons and other plants can be harmful to your dog. Before planting anything check to see if it could be poisonous. If you already have plants in your yard find out if they pose a problem. Even something as common as tulip bulbs and daffodil bulbs, if ingested, can be poisonous to your dog.

If you use anti-freeze outdoors in your garage you should take special care to keep your dog away from the area. Not only is the anti-freeze in the container a danger, but any anti-freeze spilled on the ground can poison your dog. The sweet taste is irresistible to dogs. Keep your dog away.

Rat Poison

If you lay rat traps or any other kind of traps outside to get rid of vermin, remember that these traps contain poison that can kill your dog. Keep the traps far away from areas where your dog can get to them. Consider using some other alternative to get rid of the unwanted pests.
